Innovation and quality are at the core of everything we do — which is why we’re so excited about a new generation of responsible, sustainable materials.

Down is a key material in our fall and winter collections. We use goose down because it's one of the world's best insulators; large clusters of down form a protective layer of air that keeps body heat in and cold out, providing exceptionally lightweight warmth. Down is also biodegradable, renewable and recyclable, and (with a little care) lasts for decades.

As of our Fall 2016 collections, we use only responsibly sourced goose down in our jackets and parkas. This means that our down comes from geese who receive adequate food, space, shelter and fresh water, and who are never force-fed or live-plucked.

Our down suppliers are certified to the Responsible Down Standard (RDS), the voluntary global standard developed by The Textile Exchange, a non-profit that promotes sustainable practices in the textile industry. The certification process requires full transparency and traceability. Each step of our supply chain, all the way to the farm, has been inspected by Control Union, an accredited independent certification body, to ensure it meets the RDS's strict requirements.

In addition to the specific measures we’ve taken with our down supply, we also have a policy in place to uphold animal welfare standards in the supply chain, which is communicated to our suppliers of leather, suede and wool.

From Forest to Fabric

As an organization founded in Vancouver, we are particularly passionate about protecting forests. Aritzia uses viscose and related materials like Tencel®, modal and lyocell, all of which originate from forests around the world. We love these fabrics for their softness, drape and movement — but the source of the wood is as important to us as the quality of the material.

To protect endangered and ancient forests, Aritzia has made a commitment to source viscose materials from sustainable sources. Together with our viscose suppliers and Canopy, a non-profit organization focused on the protection of ancient and endangered forests, we are working to understand where our viscose comes from and promote the use of sustainable and renewable sources of wood pulp throughout our product supply chain.

Complementing this commitment, we proudly use Tencel®, a beautifully soft fabric processed using chemicals that are then recycled back into the system, minimizing the environmental footprint of production.

Animal-Free Materials

We respect our clients’ right to choose products that reflect their personal style, beliefs and needs. We have listened to customer feedback and developed a number of products across our apparel and accessories collections that don't use any animal-derived materials. These materials have the functionality and look of leather, suede or down but aren't derived from their traditional animal sources.

Other Sustainable and Responsible Materials

We also use organic cotton and recycled polyester when we have the opportunity. Organic cotton is grown naturally without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. It’s better for the soil, the environment and workers’ health. Recycled polyester can contain both post- and pre-consumer recycled PET materials, diverting PET waste from landfill.

Aritzia has developed a Materials Sourcing Policy, which we communicate to all our partners and suppliers. It includes information on all of the above-mentioned materials and outlines our standards for animal welfare, fabric processes and treatments, and raw material origin and traceability.
